OUR NAME

Central Colorado Water Conservancy District is known by several names, which are often used interchangeably. These are those most common:

  • Central Colorado Water
  • CCWCD
  • Central Colorado Water Conservancy District

To make things even more confusing; we have two Subdistricts.

  • Groundwater Management Subdistrict (GMS)
  • Well Augmentation Subdistrict (WAS)

Our name is often confused with other Colorado entities, please reach-out to us with any questions.

OUR HISTORY

Created to develop, manage and protect water resources for Northeast Colorado, Central Colorado Water Conservancy District has been in operation since September of 1965. The district stretches along the South Platte River from Commerce City to Fort Morgan. Policy and goals are established by a fifteen-member Board of Directors who are appointed by a district judge. Since its beginning, the Board of Director’s goal has been to advocate and support the development of water resources within the South Platte River basin.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Central Colorado Water Conservancy District, Groundwater Management Subdistrict and Well Augmentation Subdistrict is governed by a 15 – member Board of Directors. Directors must reside and own real property within the District boundaries.  The Board of Directors appoints its own officers and Subdistrict committees.

Meetings for the Board of Directors are monthly on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of the month for committee meetings and on the third Tuesday of the month for a regular Board meeting. The Board meeting begins at 10:00 am, are open to the public and take place Central’s office at 3209 W. 28th Street in Greeley Colorado.

Directors of the 15-member Central Colorado Water Conservancy District, Groundwater Management Subdistrict and Well Augmentation Subdistrict Boards are appointed by district court judges for four-year terms. Notices for all Board of Director vacancies are posted below.  

To be considered for a director vacancy an individual must:  

  • Have resided within Central’s boundaries for at least one year 
  • Be the owner of real property within the District in Adams, Morgan or Weld Counties
  • Be knowledgeable in water matters
