Public Information Committee

August 7, 2018

The meeting of the Public Information Committee of the Central Colorado Water Conservancy District was called to order at 1:32 P.M. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 by Don Rosenbrock at Central’s office at 3209 West 28th Street in Greeley. Committee members present were Everett Kissler, Doug Dill and Jim Reasoner. Central staff present were Randy Ray, Executive Director; and Tammy Rusch, Office Manager.

The committee discussed current organizational memberships that the District belongs to.

  • Family Farm
  • DARCA
  • Special District Association
  • Colorado Water Congress
  • Groundwater Management District Association

RECOMMENT TO THE BOARD TO SUPPORT THE WATER EDUCATION COLORADO AS A BASIN MEMBER OF $2000.00

The committee discussed current organization and projects that the District currently supports with donations.

  • Colorado Agriculture Leadership Program – No donation this year
  • Colorado Foundation for Agriculture / Colorado Agriculture in the Classroom $1500.00 donation and sponsor 2-teaachers for Ag in the Classroom for $500.00.

The committee discussed current advertising efforts.

  • Fence Post – continue as last year
  • Facebook – continue as last year and look at ways to expand
  • Cultivating Colorado, a new publication that has reached out for advertising, the committee tabled this until next meeting. Tammy will provide more information.

RECOMMEND TO THE BOARD TO DISCONTINUE ADVERTISING IN THE GREELEY PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA.

The board directed Tammy to begin the process of providing a scholarship to each high school in the District boundaries with a one-time $1,000.00 scholarships award to one of each schools’ graduating 2019 senior class. Tammy will work with each of the school district scholarship committees with instructions as to the priority of the Central Board in selecting the candidates.  Priorities include natural resources, agricultural, water resources, and related areas of study.  Additionally, the committee requested each school provide an alternate in the event the award to the selected graduating high school senior does not accept the funds.  Funds will be required to be sent to the institution of higher learning for the student, and not awarded as cash.

Tammy presented the final budget for the 2018 Children’s Water Festival.

The Poudre Learning Center provided a summer report on the Well Watch Program.

RECOMMEND TO THE BOARD TO CONTINUE THE WELL WATCH PROGRAM UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE POUDRE LEARNING CENTER.

The committee discussed the current participation in local booths to bring awareness to the public. Tammy will continue to look for other reasonable awareness opportunities.

Tammy reminded the board that the Greeley West Conservation District Annual BBQ will be held on Friday, August 10 from 4:00 to 8:00pm.

The Public Bus Tour is scheduled for October 5, 2018. The tour will include Hokestra Reservoir, Rinn Valley Complex and a tour and lunch at Chatfield Reservoir.

The meeting ended with a review of the Public Information budgets for 2018.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:11pm.
