CCWCD staff member John Mark and others have been busy removing several years of siltation accumulating at the bottom of the fifteen foot deep A & W Water recharge pond north of Platteville. The removal of silt from the recharge ponds is one of those necessary chores that has to be done periodically. The sediment, when dry contracts to what Central’s staff refer to as “ pond cookies”. The sediment is carried into the ponds with the surface water diverted from the South Platte River. This maintenance is needed for effective percolation of water to the aquifer.
